Saturday, April 5:     Free Tuesday Twilights

This Tuesday Twilight race at Infineon Raceway is on BUT the track had some issues with getting timing equipment together. Because of this we are opening up the event for FREE this week. There will be no USCF points but ZteaM will run the event and score at least the top ten positions just for fun. ZteaM will make even make it instructive for any newer rider who wants to get their feet wet at racing.

Please understand that the track does not charge their normal fee (as they do for motor events) for use of the track, so please be patient until we work out the bugs with timing/scoring.

Again, it is free, so come on out.
Track opens Tuesday at 5 PM.

Friday, January 18:     New USAC Upgrade Guidelines

USAC has just announced new upgrade guidelines. Now fields with as few as 5 riders can get some upgrade points and larger fields of 50+ get additional points and places for road races. Riders may want to review these new upgrade guidelines since riders who have high placings in smaller road races wil probably have a lot of additional upgrade points. This especially applies to older masters.

Other changes include:

  • Cat 3 riders who earn 40 upgrade points in a 12 month period earn an automatic upgrade
  • Cat 2 riders who earn 50 upgrade points in a 12 month period earn an automatic upgrade.
  • In a stage race a Cat 3 rider can only earn a maximum of 15 points towrards an upgrade. Cat 2 riders can only earn a maximum of 20 points towards an upgrade.
  • If a road race is to short to qualify for road race upgrade points but it is longer than the Crit minimum distance then the road race earns points under the criterium point schedule.
  • There is no rounding up of field sizes. If a race her 49 riders in the starting field then the winner only gets the points listed in the rules for a race with 21 to 50 riders in it.

All upgrade requests revieved form this date forward will be judged using the new upgrade guidelines.

Want help calculating your points? Christian Kearney has put together this handy USAC upgrade points tracking spreadsheet.

Wednesday, January 2:     2008 Meet the Teams Day

Meet the Teams day will be held Sunday, January 27 at the Early Bird Criteriums in Fremont. This is a great recruitment opportunity for teams, as new and potentially unattached racers will be surveying the selection of teams.

Each team can get a 10x10 space on a first come, first served basis. Bring your awnings and goodies for hungry racers, and clean up your own mess. Sign-up with Robert Leibold (209.533.4996) by Monday, January 14.

Each team is responsible for cleaning up their area. In addition to taking down the awning, teams MUST dispose of their trash, etc. Please be attentive, and help ensure that we can return to Fremont for the EB series next year.
