With only one weekend of racing remaining in the 2007 BAR/BAT season there are many heated battles not yet decided. With the exception of the Elite 1/2 and Master 45+ categories, there are less than 5 points separating 1st and 2nd place in every men's category and the top three in some of the Women's categories may change as well. Several of the Team competitions are also down to the wire. The Central Valley Cycling and EMC2/Vellum Cycles teams are tied for 2nd and 3rd place in the Master 35+ 4/5 category and Metromint Cycling hasn't given up on their attempt to pass Webcor/Alto Velo for 2nd place in the Women 3 Team Category.

With Saturday's Carrera de
San Rafael closing out the Permier
Series, Shelly Olds (PROMAN/Paradigm) has locked up the points
standings in the Women 1/2/3 field ahead of her teammate Helene
Drumm.
In the Men Pro/1/2 field, Eric Wohlberg (Symmetrics) is the current
points leader but won't be in San Rafael, which leaves half a dozen
riders within reach. Jackson Stewart (Kodakgallery.com/Sierra
Nevada), Dean LaBerge (GS Lombardi Sports), Chris Hipp (Labor
Power), Devin Vigus (Monex) or Ben Jacques-Maynes
(Kodakgallery.com/Sierra Nevada) could all clinch the series with a
win on Saturday.
And in the Masters 35+ 1/2/3, Billy Clark (Morgan Stanley/24Hour
Fitness/Specialized) will have to defend his lead against Jeff
Angermann (Team Spine), Roger Bennett (Safeway/GA Communications),
Scott Derdenger (MAKO/Galaxy Granola) and Larry Nolan (AMD Masters).

The NCNCA has set a new all time record for USCF licensed riders in Nor
Cal. Last year at the end of Dec we finished with a record high of 3698
USCF licensed riders in the region. As of today the USCF database is
showing that we have 3731 licensed racers in the NCNCA territory. This
is 13.5% ahead of where we were last year at this time. If we maintain
this race of increase over last year we will end up with over 4,200
licensed riders in the region by the end of Dec.
Compare this year's current numbers for the various age groups
and categories to past few years on the NCNCA demographics page.
|
| |
USAC/USCF elections are underway. Last year only 170 USCF members from
all of California bothered to vote. Hopefully this year we will have
more riders just from NCNCA vote. Our own Tom Simonson is running for
re-election against 4 other candidates. Find out who is
running for the western section seat on the USCF Board of Trustees
or read candidate
statements at usacycling.org. Voting is simple, all you have to do
is login
to your USAC account and click the election link. We encourage
everyone to take a few moments to vote since this is your chance to have
some influence on how USCF/USAC is run.

The 2006 cyclocross season is almost here and a new racing calendar has been posted.

The 2006 election is quickly approaching and this year looks to be a
very active one. There is at least one candidate for every position -
with one race that has six candidates. The trustees for the USCF, NORBA,
USPRO, NCCA, and BMXA are your representatives in the political
structure of USA Cycling. These representatives are tasked with creating
and updating bylaws and racing rules for their specific cycling
disciplines. The input of USA Cycling members is needed for these
candidates to effectively do their jobs. Below is a list of the
candidates up for election:
Western - USCF
Richard Feldman (Ketchum, Idaho)
Robert Scott Frank (Hermosa Beach, Calif.)
Brad House (Torrance, Calif.)
Tom Simonson (Oakland, Calif.)
(endorsed by the NCNCA)
See www.usacycling.org/election for a complete list of candidates.

State Criterium Championships for Elite Men 1/2/Pros and Women 1/2/3s will be

Junior Championship promoters, Junior riders and their parents should be aware
of the following:
USAC has decided that Junior District/State Championships will be included in
the LAJOR race series. Results from the LAJOR races, along with other select
Junior events, will be used to select junior riders for automatic invitations
to the regional junior training camp to be held later this year. Junior riders
who get selected for their region camp will receive an invitation via their
account page on the USAC web site. The regional camp will be in Sonoma later
this year.
NCNCA has suggested that USAC also use the results from the NCNCA Junior
Points Series as a criteria for issuing invitations to the regional camp since
these races meet the criteria of having large junior fields. One of the
considerations for an invitation to the regional camp is the riders have
experience in racing in good sized packs.

The 2006 USAC election process is about to get underway. Information

NORBA -- 1 Official Trustee, 1 Land Access Trustee
NCCA -- 2 At-Large Trustees and 1 Athlete Trustee
USPRO -- 1 Organizer Trustee, 1 Trade Team Trustee, and 1 At-Large Trustee
The elections will take place online this year through your USAC account. Be
sure to vote online, starting August 15th. If you want to use a paper ballot

On Sunday Feb 29th we will have our second annual meet the teams day at the
Early Bird Training Criterium. This will be a good chance for any unattached
riders to meet with representatives from several teams. Many new racers have
told me that they found racing much more enjoyable once they started racng as
part of a team. Even if you already belong to a team this will be a good
chance to come out and meet people you might not normally have a chance to
talk to at a regular race. We currently have 22 teams signed up to be at the
event with the possibility of some more teams deciding to show up.

If you bought/renewed your license online on Dec 9th, Dec 16 or Dec 17th and
you haven't received it yet you probably need to call USAC. It seems that
licenses from those dates were printed by USAC and turned over the the company
that mails the licenses but several people never received their licenses. If
you bought/renewed your license on one of the above dates and you haven't
received it yet please call Linda Buffetti at 719-866-3295 and she will have
your license reissued and sent to you again.
