The session is run by a supervisor. The session is not a training session or a racing session. A minimal amount of fitness is necessary to complete some of the drills. \nParticipation in THIS beginner session qualifies you to participate in THIS afternoon race\, but you will need to do more beginner sessions to be fully track certified. \nWho: beginner & intermediate WTFNB (women\, trans\, femme\, non-binary) riders. Riders age 13 and up are welcome\, minors must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Maximum 30 riders. \nWhat: instruction on safety\, fixed gear riding\, track riding etiquette\, velodrome drills and training\, and lots of practice. All riders must follow structured session – no individual workouts. \nBring: helmet\, cycling shoes\, pedals\, cycling clothing (layers!)\, snacks\, lunch for between sessions\, water bottle\, allen wrenches\, sunscreen. If you have a track bike bring it\, otherwise rental bikes are available. \nAfternoon races: \nExciting women and non-binary racing at all levels of the sport! These races will double as team sprint and team pursuit practice to build Hellyer’s women/non-binary depth of talent in those disciplines. \nFields: A\, B\, Novice. All fields are WTFNB. \n*Novices must have completed 1 previous Hellyer beginner session (includes this morning’s session). May be upgraded to B or A at supervisor’s discretion. Completion of both the morning beginner session and afternoon mentored races counts as 2 beginner sessions. \nA and B riders will compete in 2 mass-start races and team pursuit or team sprint. A and B riders can come with their chosen pursuit/sprint teams or be assigned to teams. \nNovices will do a standing-start time trial and 2 mass-start races. Full instruction\, Q&A\, and debrief for each race\, with explanations of what is happening in the A/B races. \nMaximum 90 riders.

DESCRIPTION:UPDATE 1/19/2024 from Velo Promo: \n\n\nDue to the rain forecast all day on Sunday\, we are canceling the 3rd Early Birds.  Rain will not only make the clinics and debriefs unpleasant and wet(!)\, it will also make the training races unsafe for many riders. \nThose riders already entered will be automatically be moved to registration for the 4th event\, 1/28.  If you wish to be moved to the 5th event\, Feb 4\, please let us know. It’s an opportunity to feed your competitive side\, earn USA Cycling Points\, and enjoy a second day of ‘cross at Sunset Whitney. With championship and non-championship categories\, everyone can join the fun! \nMore Information: https://www.clippedinforlife.org/our-races/sacramento-cyclocross/district-champs/ \nRace Information:\n– District championship medals awarded to top three finishers in every division.\n– All Championship category winners are eligible to purchase state champion jerseys.\n– Price listed is the online pre-registration price. Pre-registration closes Thursday\, November 2nd at 6:00 pm\n– Add $10 for on-site registration.\n– Parents must fill out waiver for each child taking part in the Kids Race. Kids Race is free.\n– All racers must sign-in at registration and fill out USA Cycling standard release form.\n– Registration opens at 8 am\, and closes for each division 10 minutes before start. \nA USAC license is required to race this event. Juniors\, men racing in a USAC Cat that includes a level 5 license\, and\nwomen racing in a USAC Cat that includes a level 4 license may purchase a one day license on site. All other categories\nrequire an annual USAC license. Registration price includes USAC insurance fee. Racing age as of 12/31/2024.
