2026 NCNCA Juniors Series

Together we can help grow the number of junior cyclists in Northern California and Nevada! That’s our intent with this junior series. It’s less about the awards (yay!), or results (good on you) and more about the athlete’s sense of “belonging” to the challenging, fun and rewarding sport of cycling.  Equally important is to understand that juniors develop and mature at different rates, so we want to support them not only in the events that are part of the 2026 NCNCA Junior Series, but also through community rides with peers, pros and parents, as well as honor those that earn their series leaders’ points.

Race Categories and Ages

Racers compete in age and gender groups based on their age on December 31, 2026, must have a one-day or annual USA Cycling (USAC) license and live in the Northern California/ Nevada district (see www.ncnca.org for the district map). These eight groups/categories are the same as those used in USAC national events:

  • Junior Girls and Boys 11-12
  • Junior Girls and Boys 13-14
  • Junior Girls and Boys 15-16
  • Junior Girls and Boys 17-18

HOW SCORING WORKS

Racers earn points at each Junior Series Event in accordance with the table below. More points are awarded in races with more racers in their specific age and gender group. If multiple age/gender groups race together, points are still calculated separately for each group.

SCORING

Points are awarded to the top 15 places as shown below. For events with less than 15 riders, points will be adjusted to reflect the field size. (example: a field size of 6 riders, 1st place will earn 6 points).

10 bonus points will be awarded to riders starting in six or more Junior Series Events (in the same category).  Your final series score is the sum of your best six races plus any bonus points earned.

Racing in an older age group is allowed, but the Junior Series winners will only be awarded prizes in one category.  Points earned do not transfer between categories i.e. a 14 year-old rider who earns points in a 15-16 category cannot add those points to points earned in a 13-14 category.   In order to be eligible to win a Series prize a rider must have started in at least four (4) Junior Series events – this is new for 2026.  9–10-year-olds may participate in the Series by “racing up” in the 11-12 category.

Points earned will be tracked at OnTheDay.net

Junior Series Event Winners and Overall Series Leaders

At each of the Junior Series events, please check the official results, in accordance with normal protest rules for that race.  Points calculations to determine the Junior points leader will be performed onsite by the NCNCA Juniors Series representative after race results are final.  FOr races using ontheday.net for results point calculations should be available live when results are finalzied.  For other races (Track, Gravel, XC MTB) points will be updated later.  After each race, the current points leader in each of the eight age and gender groups will be presented with a special Junior Series Leader hoodie.

The rider with the most points in each age group and gender wins the series.  In case of a tie, the rider with more first-place finishes wins, then second-place finishes, and so on. If still tied, the rider who participated in more races wins. If it’s still tied, then the placings will remain tied.  2026 Juniors Series cash payout – $2000 over eight age groups, presented at the season ending NCNCA Awards Banquet.  1st at $125; 2nd at $75; and 3rd at $50.
